When searching for our honeymoon destination, my decision was already made. As long as I found myself checking in at a Sandals hotel a few days after my wedding, I would be more than pleased. In fact, I had been set on going to Sandals for my honeymoon even before I had a man in my life. After years of watching those tantalizing commercials and experiencing some major FOMO, I knew Sandals was the place for me.
During our wedding planning, we were both on board with Sandals but we still had to figure out which Sandals location would be the lucky winner. After some research on flight distance/time, prices, and reviews, we picked Sandals Royal Bahamian. We departed two days after our wedding on a Sunday night. After connecting in Charlotte, we arrived in the Bahamas on Monday afternoon. As soon as we walked up to the Sandals guest transportation counter in the airport, we felt confident that we picked the right place for our special trip. After five full days in paradise, we headed back to a California that following Saturday. We were refreshed and ready to begin real life as a married couple.
Summer appears to be the season of love as couples are getting engaged left and right. Picking a honeymoon destination is one of the most exciting decisions you’ll make during the wedding planning process. In this blog post, I’ll discuss what we enjoyed most about our trip to Sandals Royal Bahamian.
All-Inclusive literally means eat and drink as much as you want – Whether we were craving Italian food, Jamaican food, American food, Asian food or pizza – we had plenty of options to satisfy our tummies. In addition, there were bars located all over the premise. Each restaurant had offered a recommended drink of the day as well as endless other options. Room service was a nice treat too! We ordered cheesecake every single night. It was amazing to us that we could literally eat or drink whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted, wherever we want – including our room.
No tips are required – I have heard of other “all-inclusive” hotels that claim to include all costs upfront but in reality, expect guests to tip throughout their stay. At Sandals, you are not expected to tip as it is included in your upfront fees. We even witnessed a waiter deny the generosity of a couple that offered him a $20 tip. He explained that they are not allowed to accept them.
The staff is excellent – If the above example doesn’t verify the quality and integrity of the employees, I don’t know what will. We did not have a bad experience with any of the staff members at this hotel. From the restaurants to the bar to the front desk to the transportation to the housekeeping, each employee went above and beyond to make our stay special without expecting anything in return.
Sandals Island is absolutely beautiful – As long as the weather conditions are suitable, you can take a quick boat trip to the island that departs front of the hotel. The ride is only about five to ten minutes long. Once you arrive at the island paradise, you can enjoy a full-service restaurant, bar, pool, and plenty of beach chairs to relax and savor the views.
The bus system on the island comes in handy – If you’re anything like my husband, you don’t mind public transportation. For me on the other hand, this was a different story. Growing up in California (where everyone drives) and having some poor experiences on buses in the past, I was apprehensive about taking the bus to downtown Nassau. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the easy and inexpensive trip that transported many other honeymooners and locals. The bus took us to the downtown straw market so we could buy gifts for our family. We were also able to hop on a ferry ride that transports people from Nassau to Atlantis. On the ferry, we listened to a guy that told us stories about celebrities on the island, the movies that were filmed on the island and some of the island’s history.
The Island Buggy Tour was the highlight of our trip – Offering tons of fun activities, Sandals does not disappoint. We chose to take the Island Buggy Tour because we love ATVS and figured this was the next best thing. While the buggies are stick-shift, we were lucky enough to have met a couple that was comfortable with driving this kind of vehicle. We rode in the backseat of their car and got to enjoy the amazing views. The trip was awesome! We drove all throughout the island and got to see everything from an open air vehicle with the wind in our face. We stopped at a few places including Fort Charlotte, The Caves, and Clifton Heritage. Our last stop was at a restaurant called Aquafire. They served us fried conch balls that had everyone begging for more. Apparently this is an island specialty! Definitely a place you should visit.
It’s a great place to connect with other couples – Since this is a couples resort that attracts tons of honeymooners, it was exciting to meet people that were going through a similar time in their life. We even met a couple that lives about an hour away from us and have kept in touch since we got home. We made many memories with the other couples on our honeymoon and had a great time sharing funny stories about our relationships.
All in all, we were more than satisfied with our trip. Sandals offered luxury, comfort, quality, and amazing customer service. I would definitely recommend staying at an all-inclusive resort like this one because you don’t have to stress about expenses when you get there. If you decide to do an activity like the Buggy Tour, you will incur additional charges but these activities are optional. But please know that with or without the extra activities, you will still have fun. We enjoyed the food, the views, and the small island feel of this location. I love Sandals and I loved getting to experience the Carribbean.
