A wedding is a typically a celebration of marriage with the people you care about most. It’s about allowing others in to your relationship for one day and letting them experience the joy you and your spouse share. Make this day special and make it your own. Looking back, I am so grateful that I took the time to add special touches to this celebration because it made the day that much more memorable. Here are 6 ways to personalize your wedding! Write your own vows – As a writer, this was a given for me. Surprisingly enough, even though Jeff isn’t a huge fan of writing, he also agreed we should write our own vows. We both felt this was a much more personal way to express our commitment with each other. It also allowed us to share snippets of our love story to share with our family and friends.
Have a theme – While I knew I wanted a traditional wedding, I also knew I wanted a theme to help guide what my decorations would look like. My wedding theme was actually the name of this blog. For me, “Love is an adventure” means love is a journey that will take my husband and I to many new, beautiful, and challenging places but it will all be worth it in the end- just like the best adventures are. Once I had that theme down, I tried to find cute and subtle ways to incorporate it into the wedding without taking away from the traditional feel. (My blog was inspired by my wedding, btw)
Use Chalkboards – We had two chalkboards hanging at the beginning of the aisle. Handwritten by my bridesmaid, one said “Love is an adventure” and the other said “Thank you for joining us on ours!” These words clearly displayed our theme.
Create original table and place cards – Most people just use numbers to direct people where to go. I’ve always felt that this is so boring. Because my theme was about a journey and the adventure of love, I wanted our place cards to reflect that. Our tables were named after some of the best/most important places we had been. Each table included a hand drawn picture of something that stood out to us when we were in that specific place.
Share special photos – In addition to the hand drawn pictures, we also included a picture frame at each table of us in the specific place we visited or spent time at. This was a great way to personalize our wedding. We also included a few photos of ourselves at the sign in table, the candy table and the cake table. I’ve always been obsessed with taking pictures because I truly enjoy looking back at photos from years before and just taking a moment to reflect on what those memories meant to me. I wanted to share photos of our relationship with others.
Have a special treat for guests – Most people don’t know this but candy is a big part of my relationship with Jeff. When we first starting dating, he used to come over to my house with big boxes of candy from the Dollar Store. We would sit on the couch and watch tv all while sharing a big box of nerds or sour patch. This was our ritual. Having a candy table was a special touch because it’s something we both enjoy and it was fun for our guests.
